Adding a timestamp

Michael Curtis
Hi,

I have a gpx file of my Sunday group ride. I can’t upload it to Garmin Connect. I want to get it on to my Garmin Forerunner 920XT.

I think the issue is, it is a route and not an activity, it has no time stamp.

I tried to use ./gpsbabel -i kml -f in.kml -x track,faketime=f20151019200000+2 -o gtrnctr -F out.tcx

It doesn’t fail, but it doesn’t seem to add a timestamp. What am I missing, or am I attacking this from the wrong angle?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Best wishes

Michael

Using your same basic command on one of our KML reference files that doesn't include a time stamp shows time tags being added to the generated tcx.

rjlimac7:track robertlipe$ gpsbabel -i kml -f segmented_tracks.kml  -x track,faketime=f20151019200000+2  -o gtrnctr -F - | grep 2015 | head
          <Time>2015-10-19T20:00:00Z</Time>
          <Time>2015-10-19T20:00:02Z</Time>
          <Time>2015-10-19T20:00:04Z</Time>
          <Time>2015-10-19T20:00:06Z</Time>
          <Time>2015-10-19T20:00:08Z</Time>
          <Time>2015-10-19T20:00:10Z</Time>
          <Time>2015-10-19T20:00:12Z</Time>
          <Time>2015-10-19T20:00:14Z</Time>
          <Time>2015-10-19T20:00:16Z</Time>
          <Time>2015-10-19T20:00:18Z</Time>

Look in your out.tcx and confirm the presence or absence of <Time> tags.

Re: Adding a timestamp

Robert Lipe-4
Your example clearly showed KML input, but the answer is "probably not" - the track filter doesn't really know what the input is. The reference file I used is from our source tree and has no time.  I showed my work and you still didn't answer if you looked at the out.tcx and saw timestamps or now.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the feedback. My input file was a GPX does that make a difference?

Re: Adding a timestamp

Michael Curtis
Hi Robert,

Sorry for the confusion. This is the command I ran to try and add the fake time.

./gpsbabel -t -i gpx -f /Users/curtism/Downloads/emitremmus-route-101k-2015-copy.gpx -x track,faketime=20151001000000+10 -o gpx -F /Users/curtism/Downloads/Routes/Em2.gpx

Garmin Connect still doesn’t like this file, but it is still the same size and I can see no timestamps in it.

I appreciate your patience.

Best wishes

Michael
